Hello, I’m Leena Birdi, Co-Founder and Partner of Birdi & Co.
I’m an experienced corporate lawyer with a specialism in M&A transactions and company restructuring matters. But, I’m also a business owner and mother; so I’m used to juggling the million different priorities that are thrown at you every day, if you wear many hats. Sometimes I hear that song, ‘9-5’ by Dolly Parton and wistfully think, “imagine only working 9-5!”
A couple of things I’m proud of
Collaboration is everything
Successful deals require hard work, strategic thinking and meticulous attention to detail. But, they also require effective collaboration. I try hard to get to know our clients on a personal level, understanding their unique journey and aspirations. By aligning myself with their long-term objectives, and taking a personable approach, I think I can better serve their needs and help them achieve their goals.
Shaping culture and mentoring talent
I feel passionate about the need to create a nurturing and supportive environment within our firm. I believe that when people feel valued and supported, they can achieve incredible things. It’s not just about the legal work; it’s about fostering a positive culture where people feel supported and mentored personally and professionally.
Beyond the law
Over the last couple of years I’ve mentored young women in law, supporting mentees who may be struggling to break into or manoeuvre a legal career and guiding them through the challenges that females face.
I’ve also become interested in marketing; specifically through social media. I find it such an interesting way to speak to people. Sharing our firm’s journey allows me to document my thoughts, lessons and advice on the law and running a business generally. It’s a great way to connect with other like-minded people and if I can help someone navigate a situation I’ve been through, then that’s really rewarding.
Awards
In 2024, I was shortlisted for Woman of the Year at the Woman and Diversity in Law Awards 2024, recognising achievements in the field of diversity, equity and inclusion.
I was also shortlisted for the Female Trailblazer of the Year Award at The Access Legal Modern Law Awards 2024.
